Mary Rodgers Latham

March 22, 1935 — September 29, 2016

 

Mary Lorelle Bledsoe Rodgers Latham passed away on September 29, 2016 after a brief illness.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Gladys McKnight Bledsoe, her husband Robert Ashley Rodgers, Sr., her brother Bobby Lynn Bledsoe and her sister Betty Bledsoe Piper.  She is survived by her husband Roger G. Latham of Counce, TN, children Cynthia Rodgers Reding (Greg) of Memphis; Martha Rodgers Griffin of Memphis; Kaye Rodgers Cathey of Dyersburg; Robert Ashley Rodgers, Jr, of Franklin, TN;  Grandchildren Ashley Reding Oldham (Neal) Adam Reding (Natalie Fotopoulos), Alexis Griffin Roman, Jacob Griffin, Zachary Cathey; three great grandchildren – Mary Addison Oldham, William Oldham, and Alyvia Cunningham Cathey; her sisters Jane Bledsoe Davis (Andy) of Dyersburg and Judith Bledsoe Bailey (David) of Richmond, VA, along with several nieces and nephews.

 

Mary was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Dyersburg, active in the Ida Guthrie Life Group Class Sunday School class.  She joined First Baptist Church, Counce, TN in 2016. She was a member of the Dyersburg Garden Club, the community Bible study and a church book club.  Employed by Colonial Rubber, Dyersburg, and Dunavent Enterprises in Memphis for several years, Mary is best known for her ownership of Blackberry Hill Catering, which she founded in 2003 with her daughter Kaye Cathey. Always the gracious hostess, Mary’s house was the center of many family reunions during the years.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, all who experienced her love and kindness.

 

Visitation will take place Sunday October 2, 2016 from 5-8 P.M. at Curry Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 3, 2016, at Curry Funeral Home.   Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.   Officiants will be The Rev. Mike Hickman and The Rev. Dr. David L. Bailey, Jr..

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church (Dyersburg) building fund.
