Rachel Watson

Rachel Thurmond Watson, 101, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Dyersburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She was born February 19, 1914 to the late Richard and Hattie Sykes Thurmond. She was a member of Phillips Street Church of Christ and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Watson was retired from Sylvania. Funeral services for Mrs. Watson will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015, in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Mr. Andy Brewer and Mr. Parks Thurmon. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Craig Barron, Brodie Cupples, Patrick Cupples, Rod Enoch, Doug Medlin and Edgar Schults. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 13th beginning at 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Williams of Dyersburg; 2 grandsons, Michael Hailey (Mary), Jason Williams (Cindy); 2 great-grandchildren, Amanda Turner (Dale), Jeffrey Hailey; and 3 great-great-grandsons, Jack, Wilson and Sam Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Watson; 1 daughter, Wilma Sue Watson; great-great-great grandson, Caleb Hailey; 8 sisters, Aline Cohoon, Velma Underwood, Mary Thurmond, Lula Neal, Lela Thurmond, Liddie B. Keeling, Willo Mae Wright, Nora Thurmond; and 5 brothers, Ferd Thurmond, L.R. Thurmond, Steve Thurmond, Gene Thurmond and Otho Thurmond.
