James Ewing “Jim” Mohead, 75, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born December 16, 1947.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laura Lee Connor Mohead, and James Ewing Mohead, Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Paula B. Mohead: daughters, Windy Frank (Seth) and Laura Hertgers(Daniel), and son, Spencer Mohead, and five grandchildren Henry and Alice Frank, Noah, Theo and Simon Hertgers, as well as his siblings: Laura Lee Haygood(Bobby), Mary Emma Mohead, Ernest Mohead(Jan), Malcolm Mohead, aunt Mary Ragsdale and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was a faithful member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 45 years Where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was a graduate of Memphis State’s College of Engineering and received a Masters from Stanford University. He also served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany.
Jim began his almost 50-year career in Engineering with Ford Construction Company and later founded Inland Dredging where he was CEO and President until he retired. He was an active member of the Mississippi Valley Associated General Contractors (MV/AGC) and AGC of America throughout his career. Jim served as President of the MV/AGC in 1997. He was named Life Governor of National AGC’s Board of Governors.
Jim was on the Board of Matthew 25:40 of Dyersburg and served a term as Chairman. He was devoted to their vision of helping those in need and sought to love and help “the least of these” throughout his life.
He was a dedicated supporter of the Boy Scout of America. He served as Scout Master of Troup 88 for several years and was proud to guide his scouts, including his son, to Eagle Scout Status.
A Celebration of Life service for Jim will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Dr. Cory D. Williams.
There will be a visitation Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
