Martha Jones Lynn

d. November 18, 2023

Germantown

Martha Boyce Jones Lynn, age 81, died on Saturday, November 18, 2023, in Germantown, Tennessee. She was born January 26, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late James Albert (“Steamboat”) and Martha (Glass) Jones. She graduated from Dyersburg High School in Dyersburg, Tennessee, where she met the love of her life, Bobby Nathan Lynn. The couple later married in June 1967.

Bob and Martha Lynn relocated several times during their first years of marriage between Memphis, Tennessee, then to Columbus, Mississippi and back to Memphis, Tennessee. Over the course of these few years, they had two children, Laura and Rob. They then made a “big move” (for a couple that had never ventured north) to Rochester Hills, Michigan in 1973. Martha loved her family fiercely and purposefully, focused on instilling in her children the value of family and family traditions. She also loved the various dogs her family had over the years and treated them as an extension of her family. Martha and Bob later moved to Lititz, Pennsylvania in 1987 where she worked for the local school district. Finally, after many years of wanting to return to their roots, Martha and Bob moved back to the Mid-South in 1991 where they made their home in Germantown, Tennessee. From the time Martha and Bob returned to Germantown, they were active members of Germantown United Methodist Church and actively involved in the Seekers Sunday school class. During the years Martha spent back in the Germantown area, she worked for and eventually retired from First Horizon Bank.

Martha was very kind, selfless, and always put family first. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend. Her greatest achievements, however, were her daughter, Laura and son Rob, along with their families. The most treasured traditions she instilled in her children and grandchildren were steeped in tradition, from Sunday night dinners to annual family trips.

During her final days in the hospital, when someone entered her room and mentioned the love and support present in her hospital room, she would tell them “I am very blessed”. Martha was so proud of her family. Another long-lasting quote between Martha (“Nana”) and her grandchildren was “I love you more.” She has truly built a legacy and taught her children and grandchildren how to focus on family, how to love and be kind to others.

Martha is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bob Lynn, her daughter Laura Lynn Ezekiel (Jeff) and Robert Nathan Lynn (Renee) and her four grandchildren: Taylor and Jordan Ezekiel and Nate and Lucy Lynn. She also leaves behind a sister, Linda Ruth Aycock of Cordova, Tennessee. Additionally, she leaves behind several nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws and numerous dear friends.
